Novii CPA is seeking a Senior Accountant to join our growing, innovative team! Our CAS team supports startup through mid-market businesses – in biotech, life sciences, manufacturing, technology, and professional service – that value a tech-forward approach, need reliable month-end reporting, and want a trusted advisor for day-to-day accounting operations, process improvement, and audit readiness.
If you’re an experienced financial professional passionate about pioneering strategies and driving success in a dynamic environment, this is the opportunity for you. At Novii, we prioritize people, collaboration, and forward-thinking solutions. Be part of a culture where your expertise aligns with our ambitious growth trajectory.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will act as an outsourced accounting/CAS advisor owning the monthly close while helping clients understand their numbers, strengthen processes, and make better financial decisions.
- Own the month-end close for assigned clients by delivering accurate, on-time financials and highlighting key variances, trends, and action items.
- Lead ongoing client communication and recurring check-in meetings (as applicable) translating results into clear recommendations.
- Maintain integrity of cash, card, and key balance sheet accounts through reconciliations and review while surfacing unusual activity early and improving working-capital visibility.
- Own and optimize AP/AR and Bill.com workflows by strengthening controls/approvals and ensuring accurate inputs that support cash planning.
- Build and maintain standardized close support (schedules, checklists, reconciliations, grant documentation) so clients stay audit-ready and the team can scale service consistently.
- Prepare reporting packages (monthly financials, KPI dashboards, budget vs. actual, and ad hoc analysis) and explain what the numbers mean so clients can act.
- Provide NSF grant tracking and accounting support by setting up awards in the GL, monitoring spend, maintaining required documentation, and preparing grant reporting support.
- Anticipate client needs by proactively tracking risks, open items, and decision points, and by clearly communicating timelines and recommendations.
- Create and improve scalable client playbooks (process docs, templates, SOPs) and cross-train teammates to ensure consistent delivery and continuous improvement.
- Play a vital role in CAS onboarding: discovery and cleanup, chart-of-accounts/tech-stack assessment, process mapping, and establishing a close calendar
- Own audit readiness and PBC coordination for assigned clients by maintaining schedules, responding to requests, and helping resolve issues efficiently and professionally.
- Coach and review junior level accountant’s work to ensure quality, improve efficiency through leverage, and develop strong client-facing communication skills across the team.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 3 – 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including month-end close ownership and client-facing support (public accounting, CAS, outsourced accounting, or similar).
- High proficiency in QuickBooks Online and Excel, including reconciliations, month-end reporting packages, and analysis (e.g., pivots/lookup functions).
- Comfortable using Microsoft 365 tools (Outlook, Teams, Word/SharePoint) to communicate with clients, manage documentation, and collaborate across the team
- Able to manage multiple client engagements simultaneously prioritizing competing deadlines, maintaining a close calendar, and driving items to resolution.
- Experience with AP automation and spend/bill pay tools (e.g., Bill.com, Ramp or similar) and an interest in improving workflows, approvals, and controls.
- Comfortable reviewing others’ work and providing feedback/coaching to develop junior team members
- Strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and commitment to confidentiality and data integrity.
- Consultative mindset – able to interpret financial results, explain the “why” behind variances, and propose practical recommendations to clients.
- Demonstrated ability to standardize and improve processes (close checklists, templates, SOPs) with a continuous-improvement and automation mindset.
- Professional, client-first communication skills across channels (email, calls, meetings) – able to present information clearly and follow through reliably.
- Proactive mindset with a commitment to continuous learning and adaptability in the evolving accounting field.
